Which GoPro should I get?

Postby Gerlinde » Mon Dec 02, 2013 11:55 am

If I should decide to buy a GoPro camera, which one should I get? Is the newest GoPro Hero 3+ black edition really worth the $400? Some people complain about the shifted focal point of the super wide angle lens.
I found a nice comparison of the GoPro Hero 3 and Hero 3+ here. But what about the silver and white editions, or even the Hero 2?
Too many options, I'm confused :ha:
A) i7-3930K 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo), 32GB DDR3-1600, SSD 256GB, 2x1TB+2x2TB Seagate Barracuda (72krpm), Geforce GTX 550 Ti (1GB), Win10 Pro 64-bit
B) Sony Vaio i7-3632QM,12gb DDR3-1333MHz, GeForce® GT 640M LE (2GB), 750GB (7200rpm), Win10 Pro64-bit

Hi Gerlinde, I have the HD Hero 2 and it works great for me. I don't have any experience with the other GoPro cameras.

As I understand it a hero 3 Silver basically is a Hero 2 (although I'm not sure what a 3+ silver is) - and a white is a Hero 1.

I have the black and but went for that because I wanted to use it for diving and this is often lower light. The high resolution modes are fun - but the frame rate is very low so not sure of the use.
Intel Core i7 8700 - 32GB DDR4 - 500GB Evo 970 SSD - 3+2 TB HDD - GTX 1080- MSI Z370 Pro - Win10 64 bit - Cannon HV30 (PAL) - Sony A6000 - GoPro 3 Black

I have the Hero 3 Black and I love it. My understanding is that the Hero 3 is now discontinued. Given the choice I would prefer the Hero 3 Black as it has the most options and the lens is the most functional. The 3+ does have some issues with the lens so I would stick with a 3. Regarding the White and Silver they are less powerful and do not have the options that the Black has.

Thank you all for giving me your point of view on the topic. I missed the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deal at Best Buy for the GoPro Hero 3 black edition. But I'm not upset, that gives me some more time to think about it some more. :-D

I'm leaning towards the Hero 3+ black edition. I don't know if the shifted focal point in the super wide mode really bothers me. I have to look at some more footage. What bothers me is the price. Since it just came out there are no good deals to expect just now.
I will wait for a while, maybe closer to Xmas or after new year.

I saw some comparison of the Hero 1 vs 2 vs 3 somewhere and what struck me were the colors of the Hero 2. So much nicer than the other twos.
