Edited my 1st vid ... now what?

Postby donna622 » Thu Sep 25, 2014 10:22 pm

Hi ... I just finished all of the editing of the video I shot. Put in all the SFX and then rendered it. Now what? I can't seem to send it to disk or vimeo or You Tube ..... after you save your edited video, are you supposed to finish it off somehow? I can't find the answer in books or tutorials. :ha:

Welcome to Muvipix, Donna! You've come to the right place for answers!

But first a question for you: What do you WANT to do with it?

Do you want to burn a DVD or BluRay? Share it online? Put it on your iPad and show it to your friends?

You tell us what you want to do, and we can show you how it's done.

Dear Steve,

Hopefully I can put a copy on vimeo and one copy to disk. I have your book and saw the steps but none of them worked for me. Some of the problems look like I needed to compress the video or at least finish off the video in some way.

All I have done is edited the video and put in a couple of transistions (using expert mode) and when I was done I hit render. Then I tried to upload to both Vimeo and You Tube and then I tried to download another copy of the file to a disk. None work.

Thank you for responding to my request for help. ::wav::

Rendering just renders the timeline to make previewing smoother.

Did you use Publish & Share to output your movie? There are options to Publishing & Sharing directly to Vimeo as well as outputting a disc. Are you trying to create a DVD or a BluRay?

If you have been doing these things, can you be more specific? Tell us exactly what you're doing and what results you're getting. Simply saying "nothing works" doesn't give us much to go on.

Hi Donna and welcome to Muvipix! If you are uploading to Vimeo, I use the 720p compression h264. How long is your video?

Steve ...

Here is what I did:
1. Edited the video and saved it. The extension was .prel
2. I clicked on Publish/Share
3. I clicked on Social Websites
4. I selected Vimeo
5. I tried all the presents
6. When I clicked next (on all of the preset selections that I tried) I got a message:
There seems to be a problem ...it doesn't meet some of the Vimeo upload criteria ... the size of the video exceeds user quota.

I used your book and lesson on Lynda.com, but I didn't see any steps about compressing the file. That is what seems to be the problem to me. Maybe I just missed something.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Donna, the problem uploading is the file size is too big. Vimeo Basic account allows 500mb per week, Plus Account allows 5GB per week and the Pro Account allows 20GB.

My videos are around 3 minutes long and the file size is 110mb.

That's definitely the problem, Donna, as Cheryl points out.

Welcome Donna,

Depending on the nature of your video you might want to break it up into sections e.g. 5 videos at 10 minutes each. This is if you are choosing output for the web. It makes the files more manageable. Additionally I think sites like Vimeo and Youtube add compression so a 1 hour video might not look as good as it is.

Thank you so much Sidd .... since I HAVE to have this video ready for distribution by Wednesday, I am going to try to put it on disk again. I will let you know how that goes.

I apologize for being so dense ... I just started using my video cam and I was assigned to film a presentation ... thinking it was no big deal I accepted. The editing was simple ... but this last part has me baffled. I appreciate your patience ... I am learning a lot. Thank you all for your help.

Sometimes a little perspective can help. I try to think of it as baking. I grab all my ingredients (videos, pictures, audio) mix them in my bowl (editing) then select the pan I want to bake it in (the different formats H264, mpeg4 etc) then put in the oven (output the file)

So sometimes you make your banana bread in 1 loaf (1 hour movie) or banana bread in a bunch of small loaves (chapters). What is cool about this is once you are at the all ingredients are mixed stage, you can make endless loaves of banana bread

:)
