Re: Best type dvd to burnwelcome to the site.
Verbatim is usually at the top of the list. RW can be problematic. Sidd "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." ..... Ferris Bueller
Re: Best type dvd to burnTaiyo Yuden and Verbatim are both good and have been very consistent over the years.

Re: Best type dvd to burnI agree with Chuck and Sidd. DVD-R or DVD+R makes no real difference. It's the quality of the disc media that counts.
Though I'd also recommend burning your DVD files to a folder on your hard drive rather than directly to a disc. You can then use the excellent free program ImgBurn to burn the VIDEO_TS files that the program created to a disc. One of the best things about ImgBurn is that it includes a Verify feature that will check the burned disc for integrity -- greatly increasing the odds of a successful DVD. ..but not the new "value line" from Taiyo Yuden (now JVC). I use the Taiyo Yuden 8X white inkjet hub printable Premium Line or the Verbatim DVD-R 4.7GB 8X DataLifePlus White Inkjet Printable with the AZO dye.
Re: Best type dvd to burnSome older dvd players won't play home burned dvds.

Re: Best type dvd to burnDVD +R came out before -R and some older players won't play -R. Among the older DVD players, +R is more compatible. Newer players should play either.
Don't try to burn the disc at too high a burn rate -- especially if you are filling up the disc. Fast burns can result in marginal and difficult to read discs. Some people recommend burning at 4x. With good media and a good burner you can probably go faster than that, but for the best quality, keep it low. I agree that RW can be problematic. Use RW for test burns, but don't count on them for permanent storage.
Re: Best type dvd to burnExcellent suggestions Bob, especially about the burn rate. Now if Premiere Elements would only let us select the burn rate, wouldn't that be nice. I try to find discs that are rated at a speed of 8x or lower if possible. The lower the number the better off you will be. I have had success with 16x but don't use those unless I have to. EncoreDVD will let you select the burn speed, much better

Re: Best type dvd to burnThanks Chuck, I've been using Premiere Pro/Encore so long I forgot that Premiere Elements doesn't let you set the burn speed.
DVD Architect Studio will also let you set burn speed and so will the free application ImgBurn. Premiere Elements users can burn to a folder and use ImgBurn to burn the folder to disc.
Re: Best type dvd to burnI'm still using NERO so that I can control burn speed.
Haven't had a glitch yet. Thanks
