Timeline and transitions

Postby joper » Wed Nov 27, 2013 4:22 am

I have been using PE9 until a last week when I tried PE12. I wanted to have a X64 version

Who was the bright coder at Adobe who decided to have the transitions selector cover the timeline when activated. #-o

The titler is the same too. Which has a problem too it seems.

Don't the people at Adobe use the programme? What a stupid thing to do. There is all that empty space right hand side of the monitor not being used and they cover the timeline with pop ups. With every release they seem to be loosing the plot more and more.

Took me ages the find the properties for the key frames, that sure is hidden away where no one can find it.

I still think, IMHO of course that Version 2 was the bestest lay-out ever. :)

Peace,
John P.

There are a lot of fans of versions 1 and 2, John. Early versions of the program more closely resembled a professional video editor.

But there are a number of great advantages to version 12. Most notably its versatility with a wider range of video formats -- and its excellent performance with AVCHD.

As for Transitions and Titles, you can click and drag on the transition or title and, as long as you continue to hold down the mouse button, the panel will close and you can then place the transition or title wherever you need to on the timeline.

Nonetheless, I agree that both Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements have added some very obnoxious pop-up panels in the process of simplifying the interface. On the other hand, now that I'm used to it, I can actually edit very quickly in the new interface.

For Win7 machines: Of the PEs, PRE7 is the one to beat; of the PSEs, it's PSE11.

+1 for that.

After PrElv2 I moved to PPro which was a very easy transition because one was basically a cut down version of the other.

I don't disagree, although PrEl V11 handles AVCHD beautifully on my setup, and that's the lion's share of my editing work now. It wasn't difficult to get used to its interface, and there are some things that seem to make a little more sense in the way they're laid out, but overall I think I do still like the V7 interface best.

Thank you Steve for the tip about the transitions. I guess I will get used to 12 eventually. It is a lot faster, than V9 and it doesn't seem to have that pesky re-render bug that 9 has.

Is there any way to get the DVD titles which came with 9 into 12. My version has to download them, and at the moment I do not have the download quota to do that.

Peace,
John P.

Yes, but it's a bit tricky. Because version 12 downloads menu templates as needed, it has a tendency to wipe out templates it doesn't recognize. Fortunately, there's a trick -- which I cover in this sticky tip:
