Transition questions

Postby videogeorge » Sat Jan 25, 2014 8:31 pm

I just upgraded from PE 7 to PE 11 and have a couple of questions about transitions.

1. I don't see where I can edit a transition. In PE 7 some transitions would need to be adjusted by smoothing out the diagonal lines which I guess was deleting frames so the transition would be smooth. In PE 11 it seems my only option is to place it either at the beginning, middle or end of a cut. when I hit enter it renders the transition. Do I assume no frames need to be deleted and it does what it needs to do?

2. Also, when I place the constant power transition for smooth audio between clips it defaults to the end of the clip and I can't manually adjust it. I like placing it in the middle of two clips but the options to move it to the middle or end of the clip are greyed out and don't allow it.

3. Seems there's no favorites anymore for often used transitions?

Thanks for your help.

1. If, when you first add (or double-click) on a transition, you'll see a More button on the option panel. Click this to get into the transition's deeper controls.

2. You might be right about this.

3. I don't believe there are favorites in Premiere Elements 11.

As for audio transitions, remember how all transitions work: They take a little from each clip and blend them together.

If you don't have enough of one clip for a video transition, you get a freeze frame through the transition -- but that's not available with an audio transition. So an audio transition will always favor the clip that has the most extra audio footage on it. Make sense?

Steve, My apologies for not responding sooner, I was away for a few days.

That does make sense so my question would be if I trim some frames from each side of the cut would I have a better chance of having the audio transition between the clips? I'll give it a try.
