rebooting each time I edit

Postby lindabillet » Mon Nov 04, 2013 12:13 pm

I am new here and DID search for answers so I apologize if this has already been addressed.

This is my first video with P11, I previously used Pinnacle. Things were swell for a while but now every time I edit my video, parts of it do not work. The audio gets jerky and the video shows like one in ten of the photos I want to show. If I reboot, all will run smooth till I start editing again. This video is short video clips in high speed and mostly a lot of photos for stop action stuff. HELP please! Are my photos too big? Can this program resize them all at once?

Hi, Linda. Welcome to Muvipix!

Your photos could well be too big. That's the chief cause of problems with the program. We usually recommend resizing your photos to no larger than 1000x750 for a DVD or 2000x1500 pixels for a high-def project.

You also may want to render your timeline while you work (press Enter) so that it doesn't get too bogged down with soft rendering.

You don't say if you're using other media files in your project, but there are ways of optimizing the program's performance, depending on the type of camcorder your video comes from.

Meantime, have you checked out our free 8 part Basic Training tutorial series? It will help you get more comfortable with the program and pick up a few Muvipix tricks along the way.

THANK YOU! I did watch your 8 videos last night. Seriously helpful. THANK YOU. I saw something somewhere in the archives about resizing photos but it was after I started. My photos are all about 5x too big. I know there will be a setting so that I can download future photos in the proper size for this project but for the thousand or so that I already have, is there a way to resize all the photos as I put them in the program? I don't mind starting the whole video again but I cannot take all the photos again because the video is of an artwork in progress. The art is half done already. I can resize all my photos individually in Elements but I might rather chew my arm off.

I am using one wav file for audio and other than that, I have jpg files and mts files all from a little sony rx100 camera. I didn't know about pressing enter to render. I had been using the render button on the right above the timeline.

Huge thank you! linda

You can resize an entire folder full of photos at once using the batch resizing tool in Photoshop Elements.

We show you how to use the Process Multiple Files tool in the tutorial on this page.

Your Sony RX100 shoots video in many different formats. If you plan to edit your video in Premiere Elements, however, I recommend you shoot in 1920x1080 AVCHD (either 60p or 60i). As long as you ensure that you're using a video clip as the first clip on your timeline, the program will automatically set up your project to match those video specs.

Hi Linda & welcome to Muvipix! When you resize the photos save as a copy in a new folder.

Thanks, thanks and thanks. I just watched the first video of the muvipix tour. I plan to start with a 2 mo sub as soon as I get paid for the commission( that the video is of) I am working on. I am SO glad to have found this site, seriously synchronistic... you have no idea.

BTW, about the AVCHD... I will do that in future videos but for this one where all I have to work with is MTS files... do you foresee enough problems that I should scrap the project? It should be a 4-5 min video with less than 30 seconds of video all at high speeds and chopped up throughout the movie. Seems good so far now that I have restarted with re-sized jpgs.

You should be able to use those MTS files in Premiere Elements 11 without much problem, Linda.

Though I do recommend that you make sure to put one of those videos at the beginning of your timeline. This will tell Premiere Elements to set the project to match that video's specs.

If you do that, resize your photos and render your timeline regularly, you should be able to produce a successful video.
