EPS File

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 11.

EPS File

Postby vabal4 » Fri Nov 09, 2012 6:02 pm

I want to add a EPS file to a project, but when I attempted to do that I got the message "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed". Any ideas?
So then I imported a TIF file but PrEl didn't maintain the transparency. Any ideas on that one?

What program are you changing the EPS file to a TIF? Is there an option to checkbox transparency? I think that TIF files need to be 32 bit to be transparent, but not really sure. Is there an option to save as a PSD? Or a PNG?

If not, bring in the TIF and select the background using the magic wand and delete.

EDIT: I thought you were bringing the file into Photoshop Elements and not Premiere Elements hence the magic wand.

EPS files from Adobe Illustrator should work in Premiere Elements, Virginia. But other EPSs do not.

If yours doesn't work, you can create a PSD file from it in Photoshop Elements. As we show you in our book, as long as you don't have a Background layer behind it (You'll know because you'll see the gray checkerboard pattern in the Photoshop file when it's open in Photo Elements) and you save it as a PSD, it will be transparent when you bring it into Premiere Elements.

Thanks Cheryl and Steve. I used Photoshop CS4 to change the EPS file to a TIF and I made it transparent but when I imported to PrEl, the transparency was not maintained. I also tried importing the EPS file (which is from Adobe Illustrator) and got this message..."the requested codec is not installed". Is there a way to install it?
Finally I created a PSD file in CS4 and that worked for the transparency. Thanks!

Whenever possible it is best to use PSD image files in Premiere Elements :)
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Just as I explained in my post, above. ;)

You can open the EPS in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements and, as long as you don't have a background layer, when you save the file as a PSD, it will remain transparent when brought into Premiere Elements.

This will definitely NOT happen with a TIF file.

PSD file works fine. That's what I'll be using from now on. Thanks.
