Creating a Blu-Ray video

Postby thhult » Wed Oct 31, 2012 9:58 am

Hi,
To learn PrE11 I have edited a 10 minute project. The project consists of media formats, video from HDV (1440x1080i), HD video from mobile phone (1920x1080) and still images.
I'll make a movie in Blu-Ray format to be burned to a DVD.
At the SHARE panel, I chose Blu-Ray, but it required that I had a Blu-Ray disc in the burner. It is not possible to create a Blu-Ray Image to burn with Image Burn.
The alternative is to choice AVCHD with presets H.264 1440x1080 or H264 1920x1080i.
As output media I can choose Disc and folder 4.7 or 8.5 GB.

Which choice is the correct and best?

Regards
Thomas

The AVCHD option is designed for that purpose, Thomas. Burn an AVCHD disc to a DVD and it should play hi-def video on your BluRay player.

Steve is correct, you can use the AVCHD disc option to do this. Just remember, an AVCHD disc is not the same as a Blu Ray disc and not all Blu Ray players will play AVCHD discs. Also, the capacity of a DVD is a lot less than a Blu ray disc.

AVCHD with presets H.264 1440x1080 or H264 1920x1080i. As output media I can choose Disc and folder 4.7 or 8.5 GB. Which choice is the correct and best?

You can use either. Both are supported in the Blu ray specification. Personally, I'd go with H264 1920x1080i in this case.

As for the 4.7 or 8.5 GB question, that depends on whether you want to eventually burn to a single layer dvd or a dual layer dvd. The standard single layer dvd has a 4.7GB capacity, the dual layer dvd has 8.5GB.

Steve and Rob,
Thanks for your information.
If I want to burn a Blu-Ray disc shall I choose AVCHD and Media Disc or folder (and burn it with ImageBurn) or it does not matter ?

It shouldn't matter. You'll get the same results in the end: A disc that plays hi-def video on a BluRay disc player.
