Re: Win 8 and PSE/PRE11My opinion is that, for me, Win 8 offers no worthwhile benefit over Win 7 Pro 64 bit which is what I use now on my desktop PC, so I'll not be upgrading.
Caveat: your mileage might vary. AMD Ryzen 3900x 12C/24T, ASUS x570 mobo, Arctic Liquid Freezer ll 280, Win11 64 bit, 64GB RAM, Radeon RX 570 graphics, Samsung 500GB NVMe 980 PRO (C:), Samsung 970 Evo SSD (D:), Dell U2717D Monitor, Synology DS412+ 8TB NAS, Adobe CS6.
Re: Win 8 and PSE/PRE11I'm with John here. I don't see any real advantages.
Windows 8 does have a few technical advantages over Windows 7. For example, USB 3.0 support is native in Win8 which improves performance when using USB 3 devices, Windows Media Foundation (the replacement for DirectShow) is improved which could possibly improve playback of video in software using that feature, and multiprocessing is more efficient. But, overall, the performance will be similar to Windows 7. The new Windows 8 User Interface may be a deal breaker for many users. Microsoft wants to have a consistent look and feel across the entire range of devices from phones and tablets to desktops. I for one don't see an advantage in using a tablet interface on a desktop which typically does not have a touch sensitive monitor. Among the features removed are the ability to play DVDs in Media Player and the Windows Media Center. To regain the DVD capability, you need to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro and to get Windows Media Center you need to buy the Media Center Pack. Microsoft is also deprecating Shadow Copies and Windows Backup and Restore.

Re: Win 8 and PSE/PRE11I have XP on my internet computer and may well upgrade this to Windows 8 because of the great price of the upgrade... until January 31st if you upgrade over the internet (you can also burn an iso file) it only costs £25. Well worth it to get up to date. On my editing computer I will stick with Windows 7.
