Project settings in PRE11

Postby vabal4 » Tue Oct 02, 2012 1:06 pm

When using 2 different type video clips from files on my hard drive...AVCHD(.MTS) 1920x1080, and .MOV 1280x720... for the same project, how does PRE 11 determine the project setting? Do I need to manually set the preset and if so, what should the setting be?
Thanks.

The first clip you place on your timeline will determine the project's settings. The other clip will be conformed to those settings. In your case, I'd recommend putting the AVCHD clip on the timeline first if you can.

You can also manually set up a project to certain settings, as I show you in my book, by selecting File/New Project and checking the box to force the settings you choose on your project, no matter what you add to the timeline.

It's curious (to me, at least) that unlike v9, when you click on "New Project" from the welcome screen, that it doesn't ask you the project name or location of the files. Apparently you can't determine those things until you do a SAVE AS.

I like the look of v11, but I've had it crash on me twice while testing out what you said above. I chose "NEW PROJECT" from the Welcome screen, then right away chose File/New Project" from the menu... and the program froze twice. Not a big deal, but... curious.

Be sure to regularly go to Windows Update (don't just let the program update automatically) and download even the non-critical updates, run Disk Clean-up and Defragment regularly.

With your system, you certainly should not be having instability problems!
