Audio Syncing & Phasing Problem

Postby creativeandnoble » Tue Feb 11, 2020 10:13 am

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I didn't know where to post this...

My team and I seem to be having an issue with syncing for our videos...

When the videos are on my mac computer the audio and visuals are in sync, when I upload it to our dropbox and when it's downloaded by our editors it is out of sync... Even though the Frame Rate is constant? Anyone have any idea what the issue might be?

To also give context, I don't think it's related but thought i'd mention.... Some clips seem to have a phasing issue, the original files were fine but after they were colour corrected and rendered out to be handed over to our editors the sound became distorted on certain mobile devices unless the audio is panned to the left or to the right and we have to duplicate the audio file and pan one side left, one side right and invert either one of those sides.

Are you implying DropBox is changing your videos? It definitely is not.

But you're playing your finished videos on your computer and they look fine -- but after you load them to DropBox they're out of sync?

Can you confirm that you're downloading the videos from DropBox and then playing the videos on your computers using a program like VLC Media Player?

You may experience out of sync issues if you stream the videos or play them on the DropBox site. That's because you're only watching a preview of the movies.

To watch your movies, you'll need to download to your computer and play them there.

I don't think dropbox is the issue because when i download it back from dropbox to my mac computer the video is still in sync and completely fine... The problem is that both my editors who are remote from Italy and Philippines have the videos out of sync and I'm finding it difficult to figure out why it is out of sync on their computers but not on mine...

It's not just out of sync once imported to prem pro but even when they play back from quicktime or a standard media player

Can' think of a reason why this might be?

Sorry. I can not. Dropbox does not change the files in any way. Unless they are downloading something other than the original file, this should not happen.

Is it possible they're downloading several files as a batch? This saves all the files as a compressed file that needs to be extracted -- and that may change the files.

But if they are downloading them one at a time, this should not happen.

Quick question, Are recording in NTSC or PAL? and your camera is recording in NTSC or PAL? And their machines are set to NTSC or PAL.

If you are in NTSC and they are in PAL that might cause some issues.

Another test you can try....

Send the files using WeTransfer.com to your editors.
There is a free part to Wetransfer, you can upload unto 2GB and send to 3 people.
You may have to navigate around the home page to find the 'free service' but it is worth the effort.
The files are deleted after 7 day - only downside!!

I use it all the time for very large files where sync has never been an issue.
