Hopefully, A Xmas Gift for Chuck, Ron and Steve

Talk about anything here.

Hopefully, A Xmas Gift for Chuck, Ron and Steve

Postby George Tyndall » Fri Dec 05, 2008 10:32 pm

I've been struggling to think of a Xmas gift for you guys, and I may have found one today.

As you may know, USC is just now completing the constuction of a $175 million film school that is full of highly qualified students.

Today, I brought to the attention of one of them the existence of muvipix--and she seemed VERY excited.

Whether this will result in a surge in membership, however, is unknown, for the following reason: she says most of the students do their editing with a program called Avid rather than Premiere.

In any case, Merry Xmas!

George, you are too generous! I can't imagine a greater gift!

Is there anything at all we can do for you?

Thanks George, very exciting.
The music, motion backgrounds and other things on the site would be of interest to them I'm sure.
Especially the High Def backgrounds :)

AVID is the industry standard for broadcast news and other film work, probably even some sit coms and other shows.
Very high end editor and a step above everything else including Final Cut and Premiere Pro.

They do have an Express version :)

Yes, you are exactly right: It was when I mentioned the abundance of music and motion BGs--followed by my statment, "believe it or not, for a small annual fee you can get personalized assistance from published authors"--that her eyes lit up.

BTW, after I submitted that post, I ran across an article which explained something that I did not know: SC and NYU are generally considered the two top film schools in the country. NYU's grads include Oliver Stone and Martin Scorsese, while SC's include George Lucas (who gifted the new $175-million building) and Robert Zemeckis. SC also has a building that was donated by Steven Spielberg (who reportedly dropped out of Cal State Long Beach to pursue a film career).

There was a news story a couple of years ago that Spielberg went back and finished his degree because he'd promised him mom that he would. Gotta be fun to take a class when they use your own work as a expert example. :)

And in 1999, Spielberg received an honorary degree from Brown University.

Actually, Spielberg and Lucas MADE USC one of the top film schools in the country.

At the time they ended, it was considered one of the least respected film schools. (UCLA was kicking its butt.) But, after turning out the two of them -- and their generous gifts in return -- its reputation flourished!
