Filmic Pro and the Subscription Dance

Postby sidd finch » Thu Jan 12, 2023 7:20 pm

The company behind FiLMiC Pro, one of the few truly professional video apps for smartphones, has announced they’re joining forces with (aka being acquired by) major app developer Bending Spoons from Italy (makers of SPLICE). While the company promises that FiLMiC Pro will benefit from this merger, it also announces a move to a subscription-based model instead of perpetual licenses.

That means that to use the app you pay a monthly fee...... please why of why???

But if you already have the app that you purchased (version 6) you can get the free Filmic Legacy which is version 6 with on going bug fixes but no updates.

Do you use it, Sidd?

It's got some nice features -- but $2.99 a week can really add up. That's $155 a year!

Steve I paid for version 6 which I use but paying per month is not reasonable. So I will stay with filmic legacy.

I can’t imagine that many people could justify that kind of cost for an iPhone app.

Time will tell.
