Digi Swap - lets you use film cameras with iPhone

Postby sidd finch » Fri Feb 04, 2022 11:00 am

ed this looks like it was designed with you in mind....

Digi Swap is a device that aims to breathe new life into old film cameras. It allows you to connect an iPhone to a still photography camera, so the phone uses the camera’s lens system. A bespoke app takes care of the image capture. According to the Digi Swap website, the system is currently only compatible with the Apple iPhone X, XS, 11, 11 Pro, 12, 12 Pro, 13 and 13 Pro.

Does anyone use a film camera nowadays? My favorite Minolta film camera has been sitting in the closet for 30 years gathering dust. I spent thousands on that camera, lenses and tripods.

It is bigger then you would think treetops.

I’m not sad Sidd, I know the value of film in the process!

This looks cool, but I wonder if you still would have the various affects and short comings of the lenses portrayed. Also, makes me a little nervous to have the back off; would definitely not want to do this with fabric curtain shutters.

That said, I bookmarked it and will look at the reviews and result once people start using it.

Also, go to the KEH web site treetops. You may be surprised what they would offer you for your old gear.

They have a photography group where I work and there are a few Glass Plate camera enthusiasts who detail the process which seems really fascinating. It seems like 100 year old methods still produce better resolution than even the most advanced digital camera.

The digi swap gadget seems to appeal to someone who has the old camera but has no intention of using film again or they found the camera in the attic and want to use with phone. For me I will live vicariously through your photos ed. :)
