How to Photograph a Protest

An interesting perspective when deciding on using your photography/video skills to record the sights and sounds in your area. As always extreme caution is advised.

Living outside of Washington DC there's a never ending opportunity to take photos and videos of protests. I've gone to most of the anti-war ones to take photos because I love the colorful costumes and passion. One of the best ones we went to to take video was the anti-inaugural for W Bush's first term. It was huge. I don't go to protest, just take photos and have fun. I've found that most people want to have their photograph taken, and 'ham it up' for the camera. I usually shake my camera first and raise my eye to get approval for photos of individuals close to me.

I wanted to go down and take some photos at the recent protests, but my wife asked me not to because of Covid. One thing I won't do is go at night, because if something bad is going to happen that's when it does.

One of the comments in the Youtube posting made the same suggestion. I also think it is safe that way too.
