360 video footage needed

Postby Steve Grisetti » Tue Jan 29, 2019 10:21 am

Hi, folks.

I'm working with some new software that edits 360 video. This software not only edits and outputs 360 but it can stitch together dual fish-eye video from 360 cameras.

Are any of you working with 360 video (or photography) and would you be willing to share with me some 360 video (I'd especially like to get my hands on the un-stitched video)? I'll likely use screen captures of this video and my editing software in a future book.

If you'd like, I'll be glad to compensate you with cash or a copy of a book of your choice.

Thank you!

I'm not sure what a 360 camera is.

Once I set up my camera on a tripod with a powered attachment that rotated the camera a full 360 degrees. River, sort of dull autumn colors, small falls. If this footage could help you, I'd be glad to share. No compensation needed. The availability of this forum is more than enough!

Steve, A lot of the camera reviewers on YouTube provide sample clips to download to look at. If nothing pops up that might be the way to go.

The challenge is that I need the video or photos directly from the camera, Sidd. YouTube will display them in their final form.

I'm looking for 360 video in its raw form -- with dimensions like 3840x1920. Wider than standard HD.

The video generally looks like this.

Thanks, everyone. And thanks again for your kind offer, Paz.

But I've decided to just go ahead and buy a 360 camera. (It's actually cheaper than buying footage from a site like Pond5.) Hopefully I can share what I learn with you all soon.

Good luck with the book. Hopefully it will more than pay for the investment. :-D

I've been wanting to buy one also. I've been looking at specs and reviews for a while and I've decided to get the Insta360 One X.

Steve I look forward to what you come up with. Could there be a 360 revisit to to the "Porter File" in the works ?

I'm now the proud owner of an Insta360 One X camera. I literally just got home from picking it up. :)

Thanks for saying that, Sidd.

I'm dipping my toe into the water to the tune of about $50, while Bob's purchase is closer to $400!

I've already dipped my toes and want to tread deeper into the stream. I've mainly worked with equirectangular images and 360 spherical projections. The ability to make an actual 360 interactive video is intriguing. Also, I do have a VR headset. I'm especially interested in exploring the possibilities of reframing 360 video to fixed-frame output.

If there is enough interest, it might be worthwhile opening up a 360 photo/video sub-forum sometime.
