How they shot the long open

The opener was just over 1 minute and moved thru 2 scenes. Interesting how they filmed this continuous shot.

This is very cool, Cheryl!

The long take is one of my favorite film techniques, with the scenes from "Touch of Evil" and "Goodfellas" they reference as a couple of my favorites. Sometimes I can't even imagine how they're able to do it!

For a great example, check out the opening scene from "The Player" (It's on Vimeo). Like the whole movie, it's self-referential and full of Hollywood in-jokes and 8 minutes long, but I could watch it over and over.

I've been watching that series on Amazon Prime. Looking forward to the next season. Great cinematography throughout.

The Player is one very long opener! We've watched the series in the last 2 weeks. I found myself watching the camera movement instead of the dialogue. One opener was on a train that swept backwards down the aisle and thru the train rear window. Witty writing all around and at times it felt like a play more than a TV show.

That was a pretty impressive opener. The body mounted cameras give so much more to a shot than the camera on a tripod. I think it really draws the viewer into the scene and makes you in the movement. Another great use of this style was the TV show the west wing. I was always fascinated at the movement of the camera as they walked along.

One style I see a lot is where the camera walks around the actors in a circle. It always makes me feel dizzy as the keep circling.

...and they usually have that "shake" thing along with it. I prefer my video smooth.
