I came across the article that had some pretty handy information regarding video creation. The "avoid props that age" section was insightful.

2. Keep cuts simple.

That reminds me of something that an experienced photographer/videographer/editor/producer said on the Adobe forums:
"Everyone should be allowed to use the clock wipe transition only once in their lifetime."

I guess no one told George Lucas. :eek: The Original Star Wars trilogy used a clock wipe in each episode (and many other types of wipe transitions too). Didn't appear to affect the shelf life. ;)

The first clock wipe occurs about 8 seconds into the following clip:
