SSD DRIVE

Postby Bubby Grub » Mon Apr 02, 2018 11:26 pm

Hi Guys,
My hubby is in the market for a new 500GB SSD Drive, already has a 250 SSD WD but wants to upgrade to a 500.
Had all intentions of going 500 WD Blue but somebody has suggested instead to go to a Crucial, does anyone have any
thoughts on what might be the best. The WD carries a 3 year warranty - but the Crucial carries a 5 year warranty.
My main worry is that I have always had WD and had absolutely no problems whatsoever, not knowing about the Crucial
I am a little on the hesitant side. Any advice most appreciated. Bubby ::C

I've brought memory from Crucial previously and had absolutely no problems. They are the commercial brand of Micron - who actually make the memory. The MX500 is very well received (much more so than the previous MX series) but you're almost certainly not going to notice any performance difference between it and the Blue. The Crucial warranty is longer but the Terabytes Written (TBW) is slightly lower at 180TBW vs the Blue's 200TBW (for the 500GB drive). Given there's $9 difference in price between them it's really just down to personal preference.
Intel Core i7 8700 - 32GB DDR4 - 500GB Evo 970 SSD - 3+2 TB HDD - GTX 1080- MSI Z370 Pro - Win10 64 bit - Cannon HV30 (PAL) - Sony A6000 - GoPro 3 Black

I've been using the Samsung EVO SSD for a number of years and am very happy with it. The EVO 850 has been replaced by the EVO 860 this year and also has a 5 year warranty. About $15 more than the Crucial. Here's an article from PC World about the best SSDs for 2018 that you may find interesting. It rates the Samsung 860 EVO highly.
