Some US Phones Secretly Send Data to China

Postby George Tyndall » Wed Nov 16, 2016 9:19 pm

Security contractors recently discovered pre-installed software in some Android phones that secretly sends all the user's text messages to China every 72 hours, The New York Times reported.

Kryptowire, the security firm that discovered the clandestine feature, said the software was written by the China's Shanghai Adups Technology Company. The software monitors where users go, whom they talk to and what they write in text messages, as well as transmitting the full contents of contact lists and other data.

In short, watch who you send nude pictures of yourself to.

In all honesty, George, if I thought too much about all the data being gathered about me every time I text, shop online, buy anything in a department or grocery store, use my credit card or walk past the thousands of security cameras at intersections, ATMs and shops around town, I wouldn't sleep at night.

Which is not to say that we don't need to be concerned about our phones sharing data with China. But we do need to choose our battles.

I'm with your thinking Steve. That must explain why all my schnauzer phone pics are popping up as internet memes. :-8

That explains the nude pictures I have been sending myself. When I send them they always come back with some kind of message in Chinese over the picture. I decided to look it up what the characters mean on Google translate and got the following translation.

Which loosely translates to: "You are disgusting. Please stop doing that.
