Happy New Year! Thanks Muvipixers for another great year!

The New Year came in knocking, literally. About midnight we heard this loud knocking. Our oldest dog, the alpha male, was growling. No one was at our door and not at the neighbors. Strange. A friend said it could have been a ghost. :-8

Here in Wisconsin, the new year starts a little later -- usually after the first winter thaw. But here's to 2016, whenever yours begins!

Do you have snow, Steve?

We haven't had to run the water at night yet. This morning a flock of robins and cedar waxwings dined on the privet bushes out back. Some of my azaleas are in bloom and roses and hydrangeas are putting out new leaves and buds. My cousin's peach crop is pinking up... if we do have a hard freeze the crop will be in danger.

At least it has quit raining. Our driveway, various roads and bridges have been washed out - Christmas eve night we had more lightning than I've ever seen in any other storm. The lights went out and came back on about half a dozen times. Torrential rain and high winds - not hurricane high but still pretty hefty. Tornado weather...but our problems are nothing compared to those along the Mississippi.

Strange weather for winter.

Actually, today was a beautiful winter day! The sun came out and I got in a 10 mile bike ride and I even took my quadcopter out for real high-altitude flight at the county grounds.

A five minute flight followed by a 55 minute search. You have no idea how hard it is to find a white quadcopter in the snow! I've ordered one of those Trackr Bravo tags that I'm going to figure out how to attach to it. It's designed to find lost keys, but can hopefully help me locate a lost quad too.

You could trick your quad out with decorative tape.

Here's my quad. Definitely an under $100 model, but it does everything I need for now.

(Actually mine's the upgraded model, with the HD camcorder.)

Although it's light and not terribly powerful. Which means in a 15 mph wind, it's easy to lose control!

Don't sneeze, Steve! :)
Actually that's a lot of bang for the buck. Pretty cool. Looking forward to some of the results.

That actually looks like a pretty nice quad. Especially for the price point. And I think I would rather learn on something that is more affordable that crash an expensive quad.

BTW, I've just discovered Tiles. They're little, lightweight homing devices that you can attach to anything (car keys, for instance) and then use your phone to find them. I've tried it with my quad and, without adding significant weight, it works beautifully! Helps you home in on the device and plays an electronic song that you can hear when you're within 20 feet or so. (Trackr Bravo is a similar device.)

What a great $25 investment!
