voice recognition software

Postby videovillageidiot » Mon Aug 10, 2015 3:37 pm

I'll still be one-handed for quite a while yet so i was wondering if anyone has an opinion on Dragon voice recognition software? It's currently on sale at Best Buy for $69.99. (It was less than that a few weeks ago, but I optimistically thought I would be fully functional before long!) I need to respond to some posts here (like to Steve and Bob on a PRE13 issue and to Mom on her cool Mexico video!) - but it takes a lot of work to key this stuff...

Any opinions? I'm looking at the least sophisticated version, not the premium version.

Thanks!

From what I have heard, Dragon is one of the best. However, I think it still requires lots of training to make sure it understands your spoken words. But for that price, go for it.

"Remember that these days windows colours with inbuilt speech recognition. This reply was put into the reply box with no training of the speech software whatsoever. You might want to give it a try for spending money on something else. "

And - I'll admit - it confused "comes" with "colours" and "for" instead of "before" but this was a desktop microphone that I plugged in just to give it a go.... You can also control programs and similar.

Dragon does that too. I'd try the same speech with a free download of Dragon vs the Windows version and see which you like best.

Treetops, Chris, and Paz...thanks for your help. Sorry to respond so late, but I've been away from the site for a little bit.

Chris - thanks for the heads-up on the Windows software - I found it on my new machine and tried it out...pretty cool.

I went ahead and purchased the Dragon program from Best Buy - but won't be opening the package until I've done a little more research - may turn out i 'll just use the Windows software.

Thanks again!!

I had much greater success with Dragon after I found a choice for 'Southern USA' buried DEEP in the program. Depending on where you're from it may make a great deal of difference so you may want to check for your region.

Good luck! ::CLAP:

The Iowa accent isn't as bad as Minnesota or Wisconsin but it can be a bit tricky :)
