Latest Version Norton Internet Security is insisting ...

... that I engage in "Disk Optimnization"; however, my C drive is 0% fragmented, and everything seems to be working well with my "marriage made in heaven": Win7, i7 processor, PRE/PSE 7 ::wav::

Is there any compelling reason that I should obey?

No. You may go into Settings > Administrative Settings and turn idle time optimizer off.

Idle time optimizer wants to defrag your system drive, but if you have an SSD you absolutely do not want to do that. If you have a standard hard drive, it won't hurt, but it's not generally necessary with Windows 7 and later.
