Warning regarding SourceForge downloads

Postby Bob » Mon Jun 08, 2015 10:41 pm

For years, SourceForge has been the go to place for Open Source software. I just read an article on InfoWorld that's kind of alarming. It looks like SourceForge has begun taking over projects it was hosting and wrapping the installers with adware/malware. Here's the full article. Be careful what you download.

This seems to be more and more common. Anything for a buck, I guess. :(

It is sad but I definitely understand how hard it is to do so much for free for such a long time. I know it wasn't free for them to do all that they have done over the past years, sometimes you just need to make some money :)

Advertising is one thing...malware is another. In my mind adware is malware because of the effects it has on a computer.
