Options for old DSLR camera repair?

Postby Ron Hunter » Wed May 20, 2015 8:07 am

The CF slot in my 2005 Canon Digital Rebel XT broke yesterday (two pins broke off) so the camera is effectively useless now. The Canon repair site says service is no longer available for this camera, and when I called their 866 number the rep told me the same thing. Canon will give me $30 towards the cost of another camera if I turn the body in, but I would rather fix the CF slot and keep using the camera if possible.

Does anyone know of a good repair option for an older camera? KEH will charge a flat fee of $215 for the repair, so that is one option. Before I Google this I wanted to know if anyone here had a recommendation.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Ron, when my camera broke I looked for an authorized repair service that was within driving distance. Canon should have a list of authorized repair shops. Just find something close to where you live.

I've looked around a bit and found what seems to be a very reputable company with a lot of Canon experience.

Guess who ordered one... :yh:
Not only did I order, but it came. I thought it would be a stick that I screwed into the bottom of my DSLR..boy howdy was I surprised. It is a great deal more extensive than I thought. I'm gonna' have to go to college just to learn how to use it..whew :) I apologize, posted this in the wrong subject.

SHOUT OUT TO CAMERA CLINIC!!! Steve at Camera Clinic replaced the CF slot in my Canon Digital Rebel XT, cleaned the sensor and internals, and shipped the camera back for $85 total. He had the camera for one day and got it back out the door. Now the camera is as good as new.

Highly recommended!!! :exc:

Thanks to Chuck for letting me know that Camera Clinic exists. They will be my first choice for DSLR repairs moving forward.
