Adobe's CS market already under attack

Postby John 'twosheds' McDonald » Wed Jul 17, 2013 1:53 am

Interesting approach from Corel, challenging Adobe's CC offering by allowing disgruntled Adobe CS users a cut price 'buy-in' option.

I have not used Corel products. Anyone have any recent experience/views to share? It will be good to have options when my CS6 finally gets overtaken by technology advancement.

John, I began with Corel 3. Corel is a very good program, you can do everything that Illustrator can do, maybe even more. The only issue I've ever had up through 12 is that I find it clunky and a bit slow. You can do just about anything imaginable because they throw everything but the kitchen sink in there, stuff that I'm not interested in. This is why I use XaraX. It's a lean mean drawing machine, and fast. Their Paint program is akin to Photoshop, but not as extensive. It is OK. I don't know about the rest of the stuff. If there's a downloadable trial on the apps it would be worth the time, maybe, to play. Fo' me it's XaraX Pro. It does draw, photo, web, animation and all I need, at least for the moment. With the upgrades they are always expanding, and I'm hoping they'll add a Magic Wand to the mix, the only thing I miss in Photoshop.

I'm sure other companies will soon have Adobe upgrade pricing. Before CC, Adobe had Final Cut Pro upgrade pricing. ;)

RJ, how do you find the rest of the X6 app. I really haven't learned, completely, Vegas, but did download X6 to play with a bit.

I've found VideoStudio to be hit and miss. The weakest areas are editing audio and workflow for designing and saving DVD menus. Editing on the timeline is not very advanced, and chapter markers are broken. Expect to have difficulty understanding how things work, especially if you are coming from Premiere Elements or Sony MovieStudio. Corel does pack a lot of extras In the Ultimate version such as NewBlue Colorfast, NewBlue Titler Pro, Borris Graffiti, Prodad Mercalli, Prodad RotoPen, Prodad Adorage, and some effects from the NewBlue VideoEssentials series. Motion tracking and paths are new in X6. For not a whole lot of money you can keep yourself entertained for a while.
