Plug-ins for PE1 - can they be used in PE7?

Plug-ins for PE1 - can they be used in PE7?

Postby William Tranter » Sun Nov 25, 2012 9:49 am

I have three 'plug-ins' which I have used with great success within PE v.1: Burger transitions, Trapcode's "Shine" plug-in (which is very impressive!), and my good old "Steady Move Pro" which was excellent at removing hand shakes in my clips. They were all installed into PE1 with no problems and everything works wonderfully. I had to purchase Steady Move Pro and Shine, of course, but there is no accompanying documentation as the filters were purchased over the internet, about 12 years ago now (I still have the 'unlocking' codes which were sent by the relevant companies).
However, I have now 'progressed' (?) to PE v.7, which already has a Steadying filter, though it doesn't seem to be nearly as effective as Steady Move Pro. I would like to put this filter into the program if possible.
Secondly, I have my wonderful program plug-in by the Trapcode company, called Shine. Again, this filter works wonderfully in PE1, and it is put into (hang on, I'll type out the complete route to where it goes): System/Program Files/Adobe/Premiere Elements 1.0/Plug-ins/en_US. What I want to know is:
Can Shine (and for that matter Steady Move Pro) be put into PE v.7? If so, would the destination be the same as that for PE1?
I expect the answer to be 'No' because although PE1 and PE7 appear to be similar programs with the same results, they probably operate in completely different ways.
Finally, I have a set of brilliant (free!) transitions called Burger Transitions which I found on the Internet, and again, I loaded them into the same en_US folder as the filters. They work perfectly within PE1, but could they be used within PE7?
You may conclude that I don't have the faintest idea about the technicalities of what I'm talking about, and you'd be right! But I blunder on somehow, from one disaster to another.
All the best,
Bill

It's certainly worth a try, Bill. I can't imagine that they wouldn't work.

Worst possible case: Crash upon opening. :ha: Solution: Remove plugin.

Another possibility: Doesn't work. :( See above solution.

Or: It works. :exc:

Tried PE7 with the 3 add-ons er, added! Immediately crashed, so removed Burger transitions.
Tried again, and although the two effects showed in the Effects list, when I tried them out everything froze up, so took them out, tried program and everything working again.
I still have PE1 installed in my computer, so I can still use Shine (which works on individual clips), and then import the clip into PE7.
Oh well, better than nothing, I guess!
Thank you for your help,
Bill

I was disappointed when I could no longer use Steady Move Pro. Had to move up to Prodad Mercalli stabilizer, which is much better than Steady Move Pro.

Dear RJ,
I had a look at Prodad's programs, and they are very good, but their Stabilizer program is designed for PE8, PE9, or PE10. Unfortunately, I'm on PE7 (having JUST moved up from PE1 and PE2 ! - I don't move up very quickly!).
But thank you for your help,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Mercalli 2.0 works in PRE7. I have it installed and it does work. You may want to download the trial version and give it a shot.

Well, RJ, I registered and then gave Mercalli a try and it is very good, but the price is rather steep, even if I bought the SAL version.
I'll stick with the built-in stabilizer for the moment, and see how I get on - perhaps I just wasn't using enough 'correction'!
Anyway, thank you very much for your help,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Yes, it is expensive. Every once in a while they have a sale on it. I believe I've seen it at $99.00.
