Not sure if there is one since there would need to be conversion from flash to MPEG 4 H264.

Download Helper for FireFox downloads video from YouTube in a variety of formats, including MP4.

If I can play them on my iPad, why can I not 'download' them .. which just means they're available to view offline .. I'm not looking to move the video to another device. I have two apps that allow me to 'view offline' from a couple other Websites .. just not YouTube. Is YouTube different from other video websites in that regard?

I don't think so.

You can't just watch the FLV files on your iPad because, of course, iPads don't include a Flash player. (They use the one on the YouTube site to play them.)

But if you use Download Helper on your PC or Mac, you should be able to port the video to your iPad for viewing.

I think there are some youtube downloaders that also convert the file upon import to a viewable format :)
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
