Re: External Hard Drive For VHS Tape Conversions

The drive itself could also have contributed. There have been some WD drives that run notoriously hot, but in the past several years they have also made some models that are known for running nice and cool. There's good and bad in the WD product line too. I've just personally had good luck with them.

Re: External Hard Drive For VHS Tape Conversions

I'm also a long time WD user, with no failures yet (knock on wood). In fact I've only ever seen hard drive failures in one brand - Hitachi. I've seen several different Hitachis fail, both in 2.5 and 3.5 sizes. Whatever you decide, the more important thing is that you back up anything you can't affor...

Re: My Computer Is Infected.... :(

Typically the way this goes is you get on a web site that pops up an ad for a "free virus scan." When you agree to let the file install, it installs the malware. It's not actually a virus, but that's neither here nor there. After it's installed you get lots of popups telling you that you h...

Re: High school paper analogies and metaphors

Haha...my favorite: The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't. These remind me of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest for worst opening lines: http://www.bulwer-lytton.com/ It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents--except at occasional inte...

Re: Need help finding sound card

Got the Audio-Technica mic. If I didn't know what little I paid for it, I would have guessed it to be a much more expensive mic (to feel and look at). It has a very long cord, a 1/8 to 1/4 plug adapter, a cheap piece of plastic that serves as a tabletop stand, and even has an on/off switch built in ...

Re: The Spring 2010 Muvipix Video Contest

Only because I'm avoiding installing anything on this laptop that I really don't have to have. Ever since I reloaded it a few weeks ago to solve my networking problems it boots about twice as fast and has been working great. I have QT installed on my desktop and will play that video from there later...

Re: The Spring 2010 Muvipix Video Contest

I had to install the WMP plug-in before I could play any of these, so I have to assume it's the latest version. The rest all work except for the mov file, which I didn't play because I'm not going to install Quicktime.

Re: The Spring 2010 Muvipix Video Contest

I'm having some kind of issue with the Life of Idle Luxury vid. The audio is fine, but all I get on the screen is a very thin vertical line that seems to have some movement and color in it, almost as if all of the horizontal direction of the video has been squashed until it's just a very thin vertic...

Re: Blu-ray Player Poll

It would be easier for me if you just buy the whole garage and contents to go Steve. I'm afraid to go in there anymore.

Re: Blu-ray Player Poll

Saw that and found that you had already posted. You gotta get up pretty early (or stay up real late) to beat Ken. :-D

So now it's not the cost of the dog - it's feeding it that's expensive.
