I should have figgered that out for myself as an obvious typo, but even though I think I am a pretty savvy PC guy (I run my own consulting business) you just never know.

Thanks!

Whew, that went right over my head.

Robert, could you give us a quick tutorial as to what an NTSC folder is?

Thanks...

I am not sure about the quality loss. You generally lose quality when you compress, not the other way around. I would think a DV-AVI internal file made from an MPEG would be equivalent to the quality of the MPEG originally. Now, that is a separate issue - if the consumer market wants lower quality, ...

I have never fully understood the problems in this whole thing. I remember back when I used Pinnacle Studio how bad it was, but it was better (relatively) when I switched from trying to edit MPEG to AVI. The point, I think, is that it is much more difficult to edit any format that requires extensive...

Although by my job I should be, I am not a Vista expert yet. Luckily few people have to put up with it and nobody I know of is upgrading an XP machine, thank goodness. There are different levels of Aero. I bought a basic HP machine with integrated graphics that did support Aero, but not fully - not ...

There are really two separate issues here. How to archive your work, and how to display it. Not the same thing. You have to ask: Who is your audience - both current and future? Archiving for me has been a bit of a failure, but I just use the hierarchical structure of folders as much as I can. My aud...

1700 photos is not a lot. If you and perhaps your spouse get into digital photography, the photos pile up. Even though I encourage my wife to cull what she takes, we still end up with literally thousands. So, plan ahead for them - they will come. I have done quite a few (28 at current count) family ...

I guess it will do in a pinch. But it won't accept multiple files as input and if the file is big there is a noticeable upload time, not to mention the delay to get the email back - and then it isn't attached to the email, but you have to download it. But if you need an odd conversion in a hurry and...

Yes, the D520 is in their business class, but I was surprised to see XP right there - I had heard that it was special order only. But when I looked at a home / small office PC, it was only Vista.

Glad it worked out for your client.

"have two weeks to transfer everything over" The easiest way to transfer the data is to get an external hard drive enclosure or adapter, that allows you to connect the old hard drive externally via USB. The local PC stores have 'em for around $30. Once you connect it (if it still works) yo...

I know this is not the question you asked or answer you want, but I have to chime in that 1:50 is a VERY LONG DVD. Experiences with my family show that their attention span is far shorter than that. One hour seems to be about the maximum and even then it has to be a good hour - i.e. something to hol...

Yes, you should be able to set up your DVD player to show 16:9 on a 4:3 screen. This is actually fairly common, as lots of the commercial movie DVDs are widescreen. Nothing new here. In my case, I have decided to do all new DVDs in widescreen, regardless of what my kids have. Of course, that means D...

For anyone who has looked at the blank DVD offerings, Taiyo Yuden is the only answer. Search around, or check some of my posts on the PrEl forum. The problem is that you can't buy them locally. TY sells to other manufacturers, but you can't be sure who or when. But the web stores that sell media lik...

Re: Dell Interesting. I don't use or have an outlet, but Dell made it quite clear to the public that it was not selling Windows XP any more. All you can get is Vista, except on certain business PCs and then only on special order. I am not sure what is going on here - perhaps the outlets are purging ...
