...reminds me a little of an antique spear shaped topper (finial) for a gate or fence... That sounds like a good suggestion. I doubt that it is something like a joist hanger as the tapered part (to my eye) is the wrong shape to support any load and looks like it would easily detach from whatever it...

There are a couple of video tutortials on Youtube that cover "re-synchronosation" of audio and video using free software, such as Handbrake or VeeDub64.

Not quite obsolete for me yet. That'l teach me to buy LOTS of miniDV tapes in anticipation. Still got about another 30 or so unused then it will definitely be a camera upgrade.
