Encounter at Wasp Point

Postby sidd finch » Sat Apr 28, 2018 9:45 am

Checking the hummingbird feeder and what did I see..... ohhh nooo .... it's a Wasp making a nest...... time for the macro lens..

This one was a bit hard to keep in focus as I did not want to get stung by the wasp if I kept keep moving the camera around.

Another great vid! It's amazing how they build those nests, isn't it? All the perfect symmetry. Nice job. :TU:

Thanks Dave.

The nests are really cool. When I was removing it I was surprised at how springy it was without breaking. I dropped it and when I went to pick it up it was really soft and spongy. Sill no need to invite a wasp to sting me so I relocated quickly. :ha:

Nice work again, Sidd.

It isn't quite warm enough here for the wasps to come out, but soon we will be "swarmed" with them.
We usually get three or four at our business and a couple at home that we have to "relocate."

Thank you for the kind words. I almost missed this one and the nest caught the corner of my eye. I was a bit nervous trying to place the camera expecting it to get mad and sting me. But I did notice that on some camera angles it just stopped what it was doing and starred at me. I am guessing it say its own reflection in the glass and did not know what to do. To me the little mark on its nose looked like a batman logo.

I did a little research and found that Wasps are beneficial to humans because they eat a lot of caterpillars and small white larvae that feed on vegetables. Which means that have my back in the veggie garden so they get to stay. But they do really creap me out so I would prefer they do their business away from the house.

We've had a lot of wasps and find that it takes quite a lot of provocation for them to be aggressive.
