A place to introduce and tell a little about yourself.

Hi folks. My name is Scott. I've had a subscription here for over a year, and I'm still using Steve's book on PRE9, although I've upgraded my software to v10. I've shot a lot of video over the years, mostly for one client - a karate school. I'm tasked with shooting their seminars and black belt tests and editing the video into salable DVDs. A million years ago I went to the University of Bridgeport (CT) for cinematography, and although the tech has changed I still haven't - editing is not my favorite thing to do. Hehe!
I'm gradually gathering other clients who want me to shoot promo pieces for them. I've been using a two-camera standard definition setup for the karate stuff: a MiniDV-based prosumer Panasonic and a tiny harddrive-based Sony consumer camcorder. Amazingly enough, when I shoot things correctly, the DVDs are decent enough. The school owns the Panasonic, which I sourced for them 5+ yrs ago. For my other clients, I have two HD cameras: a Sony harddrive-based HDR-XR160 and a Samsung that records to SDHC cards. I use the latest version of Elements to edit whatever I shoot. I was using Pinnacle Studio, but their support answer for everything was, "Ask our other users." I switched over around 3 years back.
Anyway, I'm here to hang out, read the posts, grab info, inspiration and (im)moral support wherever I can. Looking forward to interacting with you all! Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Very best,

Hi Scott, Welcome. There is no finer site around for people that enjoy movie making. Everyone here is so helpful and giving of their time. We are a group that gets excited when others borrow our ideas. There is no question too small to ask.
Again, welcome to Muvipix.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I was on Nevis in the Caribbean trying out my latest HD camcorder (and taking my first vacation in abt 5 years). I posted a clip on my FB page, but it should be open to everyone on there. Try viewing it full page. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php ... 6114430250

Beautiful video Scott. What camera did you use? We went to St Kitts many years ago on a Windjammer.

Thanks for the compliments, Cheryl! It's a Sony HDR-XR160, records full HD video onto a hard drive. Recently discontinued, so I got it at a discount. My local Sam's club has a similar model - also discontinued - on closeout. I'm keeping an eye on the HDR-CX160, which uses flash memory cards.

The HDR-CX160 looks like a good camera and very good reviews. I have 2 HD tape based, HV30 & HV20 and may migrate away from tape and would like full HD. My wish list is for the Cannon T3i.
