I use a number of forums and a friend in another place needs some help. Here is the story.
He bought a new camera and the other night was out playing with some timelapse shots of the moon. By pure chance he caught an aircraft that flew under the moon and appears to kiss its lower edge. Its beacon flashes at just the right time. He wants to use this footage as a signature on his films. A number of us in the other place have made suggestions for improvement but these would require software such as After Effects which he does not own.
What he would like is for the aircraft as it kisses the moon to leave a trail of sparkling dust that falls down to reveal the title. I suggested that perhaps someone could make that title and provide it as a clip that could be used to overlay the effect. I dont have After Effects so I am not sure that its possible.
Here is the title sequence containing the words he wishes to appear.
Could anyone help him please ?
I should add that he is not a professional videographer, he is a learner like myself. Shrimpy
Can you or he post the video (ideally in DV codec MOV) to the Muvipix Gallery so that I (and whoever else wants to take a pass at this) can download it?
It's short enough that it should be too large.

That is a great idea for a title. Not sure how this could be done. I do suggest to whoever wants to try to make this is to slow the plane down a bit. The title could be moved up a bit too. Would pixel polly work for this effect? Trapcode Particular may be good too, but I don't have the trapcode set.

I agree; slowing it down is a very good idea.

That would not be hard to do in After Effects at all. Motion Sketch or one of the other tracking tools, a little fractal noise to make the trail, maybe a mask and then add the sparkle.

It's over 50mb so it might take a little bit. I will have to look at it when I get home as the internet connection at work is not good for downloading or watching video of this size.

Like I've already said, this should not be too difficult to accomplish with After Effects.

Not to worry Midnight, we learn as we go The size is not a real problem, just wanted to make it clear of the size. 50mb is not that big of a file anymore unless you are on dialup

Welcome, Midnight! I hope to take a pass at this -- even if it may be a few days before I can get to it. But I've got some ideas.
Meantime, can you tell us more about the effect you're trying to achieve? Are you trying to make it look like the plane knocked a chip off the moon? Or do you just want a sparkler to fall from the sky?
You don't have to describe every frame. Just give us an idea of what illusion you'd like us to create.
(And then don't forget to tell your friends how creative and helpful all the people on Muvipix are!)
