Thanks - I wonder if it has something to do with a codec. I also am running this on Vista.

I am trying to re-instal DVDAS now. Maybe that will fix the problem
Re: MAGIX Smart Rendering and Sony DVD Architect StudioWell, since we're both running Vista, that shoots down the Windows XP support of OpenDML theory.
Since it works on my system and not on yours, something must be different between our systems. I have no idea what though. I tend to run pretty vanilla -- I didn't install any codec packs or ffdshow. I"m crossing my fingers that your reinstall of DVDAS will help.
Re: MAGIX Smart Rendering and Sony DVD Architect StudioWhen things start acting funny on my machine, I usually do a fresh install. I do this usually about once a year. I am overdue.
It is not a big problem for m since I have very good backups of my data. I will see if that works.
Re: MAGIX Smart Rendering and Sony DVD Architect StudioI don't know if you saw my post on Magix, but a while back I reported that there was a problem smart rendering DV-AVI files, and that you shouldn't use smart rendering. The NTSC frame rate of 29.97 is incorrectly stored in the new file as 29. There may be even more problems than that, such as the one you are having with Sony DVDAS.
Re: MAGIX Smart Rendering and Sony DVD Architect StudioThanks for the heads up, RJ. But, that doesn't explain why the sample clip that fails in DVDAS on his system doesn't fail on mine. Any ideas?
Re: MAGIX Smart Rendering and Sony DVD Architect StudioBob:
I did a re-install anf thhe clip acts the samre way. Are you sure when you play the 10 second clip that it plays fine throughoput. It starts with a pan which was a jpeg. Then a DV-AVI video fades in. During the fadde in all looks fine. However, righ afer the video fades in it goes black. Then a cross disolve to the next DV-AVI - where the video loooks fine. Then afert that blackagain. That it the problem. RJ - yes i did see your post. I wonder if there is a way to correct the frame rate.
Re: MAGIX Smart Rendering and Sony DVD Architect StudioJohnnyO, I downloaded your file and tried it in DVDAS 4.5d and had the problems you had with the black frames. I have Windows XP Pro SP3.
After experimenting in DVDAS, I changed an option and playback was good, no black frames. Select the option "Use Microsoft DV Reader," which is listed on Options > Preferences > General Tab. Bob, do you have that option selected in DVDAS?
Re: MAGIX Smart Rendering and Sony DVD Architect Studio
Yes, I do. I just tried deselecting that option and I get the black frames too.
Re: MAGIX Smart Rendering and Sony DVD Architect Studio
RJ . That's it. Thanks
