Here is the author's description: DVTimeEye is an extension for Microsoft Windows Explorer which allows you view DV-AVI video clip(NTSC/PAL) meta date code easily from Windows Explorer.
First go here:
http://sourceforge.net
Then search for DVTimeEye.
That will bring you to the download page.
It works. After installation, you can expose additional columns in Windows Explorer, such as the date and time of the shot, PAL/NTSC, FourCC, Type 1/2.
It's a DLL file that you need to register with regsvr32. The trick is finding the file after you download the zip file, as the zip file contains the source code as well. After you unzip the file to a folder, the DVTimeEye.DLL is located in this directory:
DVTimeEye-Source-10252006\DVTimeEye\Build\output\unicode release
What I did was to drop to dos (command prompt) in that directory and then typed:
regsvr32 DVTimeEye.dll
There's a readme file in the root directory that has the instructions.
I restarted Windows XP, then I went to a folder that had some DV-AVI files in it. I right-clicked on the column headings in Explorer to reveal a pop-up menu that has several DV-AVI entries. After selecting the additional columns I wanted displayed, the info appeared. I compared the dates and times to what I had come up with using my own datecode file renaming script, and they were the same.
It's free.
