Windows 10 versus Photoshop Elements 12

Postby Walter Seaton » Wed Aug 30, 2017 12:06 pm

I think everybody is aware of the problem. I tried to escape it by buying Photoshop Elements 15 - no use, the download would not even open in my 32 bit OS. I would like to try one more thing and ask your advice in this. Can I install Photoshop Elements 14 on a 32 bit OS and will it not suffer the same problems as "12"?

Hi Walter,

Since version 12 I am pretty sure it will only run on a 64 bit system, this is a change that Adobe made a few years ago. Is there any reason why you are running Windows 10, 32 bit instead of 64 bit?

After some research, and jogging of my memory, Photoshop Elements versions 13 and 14 had 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Version 15 is the first 64 bit only version of the software. So technically, version 14 should install its 32 bit version on a 32 bit OS automatically.

Photoshop Elements 14.0

Windows

1.6GHz or faster processor with SSE2 support
Microsoft Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, Windows 8 or Windows 10 (32-bit versions will be installed on 32-bit systems; 64-bit versions will be installed on 64-bit systems)
2GB of RAM
5GB of available hard-disk space (additional free space required during installation)
1024x768 display resolution (at 100% scale factor)
Microsoft DirectX 9 or 10 compatible display driver
DVD-ROM drive (for installation from DVD)
QuickTime 7 software
Internet connection required for product activation and content download*

Hi Chuck,

Thank you very much for all the work you put into answering my question and particularly the good news that "14" will open in a 32 bit system. To answer your question, I had considered to changing my system to 64 (I had had 32 in Windows 7 and when I downloaded Windows 10 it copied that) but discovered that I would have to uninstall the 32 bit version. I run a large number of applications and shudder at the thought of having to reinstall them all. In addition I do not know which of these apps will only work in a 32 bit system. That is why I am sticking to 32 bit.

Again, very many thanks.

Walter
