Play button not responding

Play button not respondingHi, can someone help? I am having some issues with Premier Elements 12 - the play button stopped working. The fast forward/reverse does not work either, but the frame step ahead and back works. I can grab the CTI and move it along my project, but wherever I place it, play will not work. I cannot play preview videos either. Is there a way to fix this? Or is there a bypass command for the play button? I am using Windows 8 with an Intel core i5-3330 CPU, 3.00 GHZ, 8GB MEM 7.87 usable, 64 BIT. This is also a computer not connected to an internet if that makes a difference. Thanks.
Re: Play button not respondingCould you please specify what type of video you are trying to edit and how did you get your video into the program? Did you use the importer?

Re: Play button not respondingDid these buttons used to work but have suddenly stopped -- or did they never work?
Does pressing the spacebar to start playback also not work? HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: Play button not respondingThe play button just suddenly stopped working. My project is almost finished - I was able to add 150 edits to a 4 minute video up until this point. I tried the space bar and that did not work. Step back and forward still works, but not the play or FF. Of course I can grab the CTI to move along the project, but cannot play. I also notice too that the sound cannot be heard either when I move the CTI.
Re: Play button not respondingThe files were added from an external hard drive. They are AVI files that were saved in another version of Premier Elements. Everything was working fine - play button stopped suddenly.
Re: Play button not respondingCould you try closing the project and restarting your computer.

Re: Play button not respondingYeah, tried that too - comes back the same. Really at a loss here. Willing to try anything. Spent one hour trying everything before coming to this site.
Re: Play button not respondingCan you export your timeline as .avi and start a new project. I know that is not ideal but at least you don't loose all your work. Another option you could try is saving the current project using > save as <, give it a different name. Now open a new project and import the newly saved project.
A third option, that just popped into my mind is, open one of the Auto save files ( hopefully you had that turned on). Maybe you can find one that does not have that problem. Re: Play button not respondingOK I will try these suggestions and see what happens. I am a little skeptical since I have closed and opened different projects to see if the problem exists there too and it does. Seems no matter what I open, the problem exists on all projects. Also I must emphasize that this problem exists on a computer that is not connected to the internet. Could that at all be relevant to this issue?
Re: Play button not respondingAnother obvious thing to do is to delete the preference file and restart the program.
On Windows 8, I believe the prefs folder is in C:/Users/[Owner]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0. Delete the file Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs. HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: Play button not respondingOK, so if I do this, it would still save my project?
Re: Play button not respondingYes, you save your project and close PRE. After that you delete the preference file. It will be newly created when you reopen PRE. If everything fails, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the program. It used to be posible to do a repair install, but I'm not sure if that option is still available in vers 12.
I don't think so. But why don't you connect your computer an see if that helps. A) i7-3930K 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo), 32GB DDR3-1600, SSD 256GB, 2x1TB+2x2TB Seagate Barracuda (72krpm), Geforce GTX 550 Ti (1GB), Win10 Pro 64-bit

Re: Play button not respondingOK thanks, I will give it a try. I use a tower computer for editing in a location with no internet access.
Re: Play button not respondingThere are a lot of software dependencies in video editing so a long shot here but this is something that one should do regularly anyway.
It probably won't make any difference but can you check that video drivers are up to date, also Quicktime, AMD Ryzen 3900x 12C/24T, ASUS x570 mobo, Arctic Liquid Freezer ll 280, Win11 64 bit, 64GB RAM, Radeon RX 570 graphics, Samsung 500GB NVMe 980 PRO (C:), Samsung 970 Evo SSD (D:), Dell U2717D Monitor, Synology DS412+ 8TB NAS, Adobe CS6.
