Re: 2.5 D photos in After Effects video & tutsThis is really nice! You can create any type of animation because there are various tools and not just that, they keep updating and more advanced tools keeps coming for the designers. I think due to extensive use of VFX and animation we will be able to create a complete look alike of human being "On Screen" in near future.
Re: 2.5 D photos in After Effects video & tutsMom this is really cool. I have heard this effect called the "Son of Ken Burns" effect. There is a very simplified version of how to actually do this technique on the Adobe web site.

Re: 2.5 D photos in After Effects video & tutsWhen watching the History Channel I see this effect being used quite a bit. Especially with the animation of the subject matter movement. It looks like it must be very time consuming.

Re: 2.5 D photos in After Effects video & tutsIt is time consuming. It is best to get a good cut out in PS. Spending the time in PS upfront pays off later in AE. A nice feature in AE is to bring in the file as layers. If a layer needs a little tweaking in PS then you can send it back to PS from AE. BUT, don't change the layers' names!! I usually have an extra layer in case I decide to cut something else out later. Label the layers accordingly too is helpful.

Re: 2.5 D photos in After Effects video & tuts
I agree. I tried making a simple animation and it worked really well. It just took a long time. I wonder if Adobe would come up with an automated process to automatically layer a still image.
