A parking place for everything that relates to our contests and giveaways!

I have noticed that Muvipix participants are from all over the world and I think it would be interesting to see what the world looks like in your area. How about a contest where forum members submit a short video that highlights all of the things that make it great to live where you do?
The video should be about the city, region, county, or other reasonably small geographic area around your home. For example, is there a really interesting historical site near you? A fascinating building? A neat nature trail? How about a breathtaking waterfall? Or a serene pasture? Balloon festival? Farmers Day celebration? Some wacky event?
I am envisioning this as a video about the place you call home and why you like to live there. Imagine that someone is thinking about moving to your area and it is your job to convince them to make that move by watching your video. Show us all the cool things in your part of the world!
To increase the likelihood that others will watch it, and to increase the challenge of the project, we could set a time limit of 1 minute on the video. I expect it will take some time to make a list of things to shoot, go out and get the footage, then assemble the video for upload, so how about one month to get all this done?
This doesn't really have to be a contest but the idea of competition may prod some to do it. I just think it will be fascinating to see what everyone else sees every day. We could always vote on our favorite once all the videos are in.
Anyone else interested in this? Any other considerations we should nail down before starting?

Ron, this is a great idea! If we can generate enough interest, let's definitely do it!
If we have a dozen or more participants, we can certainly hand out a prize to the best. Otherwise, it might be fun to just have everyone who'd like to participate tell the story of their hometown in one minute or less. I'd sure love to see the home cities of our Muvipix friends around the world!
What does everyone else think?

Maybe you and Cheryl could just share the same video of the St. Louis Arch?

I'm thinking I might be up for this. 1 minute is pretty tight (although I fully appreciate the reasons for it). Summer holidays here - so not sure how much time I'll have though!

That's a good point. This is prime vacation season in the Northern Hemisphere, and for those of us with school age kids (or grandkids?) the new school year is just a few weeks away. But on the other hand if we put the "deadline" too far out in the future, people will forget about it. Here is an idea; deadline is midnight August 31st. That would give interested participants about 1.5mths to get it done. 1 minute max, any camera/tripod/editing software/format/resolution/codec/etc you want. A 1 minute video so the world can see what it means to live where you do, to demonstrate what is great about your corner of the world. Everything has to be your own work except for maps and music. I don't know if we would upload them here or to Vimeo or wherever. I'm guessing "Shrimpfarmer" will be a favorite (if he participates) because of his quadcopter, as will "Mom" with her amazing After Effects talents. And Sidd is great with his GoPro. And and and... I count the following so far: - Ron Hunter - Steve Grisetti - "Momoffduty" - Sidd Finch - Chris B - Kent Frost Thoughts?

Well, that's half a dozen of us anyway.
Want to set a deadline of a month from now -- say August 20?
And, of course, anyone who feels to inspired can jump on board.
As I've said, if we can get participation up to a dozen people, we'll come up with a prize.

I prefer the end of August deadline, sorry, as I am back in the UK for a while at the start of August. Mid August means that I may not have time to make what I am planning.
