Talk about computer software/hardware problems, related to digital video or otherwise.

Hi All!
I am having trouble viewing videos in forum posts using the [vimeo] tag on my iPad. I have tried different iPad browsers (although they are, I think, all the same core software) with the same results. Basically, I see nothing at all, just a big blank space. But sometimes (10%?) if clicked the audio does play, and even more rarely the audio and video.
Just FYI if it makes a difference, I am logged on to Vimeo and I do have the Vimeo app installed, if that is what it is trying to use.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Bob

I just received a email from them saying they have revamped their player to use HTML5. Maybe that's causing your problem. So far I haven't seen any difference in the display here using Firefox on Win 7 64. (Maybe a tad faster starting, but just maybe) IF you go directly to Vimeo can you play the vids on your iPad?
Have you asked in their forums for help?

Yes, they play fine on the Vimeo website.

I've recently encountered the same problem on a Samsung tablet. I can't even play on their site. There was a mobile version, but don't see the link where you can change on the video page anymore.

I'm using the paid version of Puffin browser on my iPad. I don't have any trouble playing Vimeo videos or any other videos, even flash. I don't have to use the Vimeo app, everything looks just like on Firefox on my PC. When I use Safari to read forum posts, I have only big white empty spaces where the video is embedded, not even a link to click on.

Does that Puffin browser work in Android devices also?

Tried the Vimeo app. Downloaded and installed, but got an error trying to use it.

I always had the Vimeo app installed, but it made no difference in the forum browsing problem - i.e. it did not get control when trying to open the Vimeo video. I haven't had much success with that app either, very slow and cranky.
I will look at Puffin, thanks.

Ron is out for a few days but when he gets back maybe he can help with this. Wish I had a tablet to test

Isn't Flash inherently disabled on the iPad? In other words, not supported out-of-the-box?

You like are correct Ron, that is why you need an alternative browser Puffin. It comes with a Flash plugin. There are probably other browsers that will do the same thing. I chose Puffin because it came with a 14 days free trial and was only $2.99 to buy. It works quite good on my iPad mini.
