Installed DVD Template does not work

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 10.

Installed DVD Template does not work

Postby hygges4 » Sun Apr 01, 2012 5:09 am

I have bought a subscription of "Media Basic". Downloaded for instance a DVD template "CoolBlu_hd and got an icon on the desktop. I double clicked the icon and got three files, two .psd file and one .wav file. I placed these files in a new folder in Mac HD/library/application support/adobe/premiere elements/10/content/dvd templates/common/general. When I then tried to choose the template in my PRE 10 I only could see an empty folder (the earlier made libr.) with the HD sign. What is wrong?
I am a beginner on my new iMac and in using Premiere Elements 10.

You first need to unzip/extract the file that you've downloaded. Then you you need to confirm that the files are actually moved to the folder you created in the DVD templates folder.

Also, when you started your Premiere Elements project, which project settings did you select?

The other possible issue is that Adobe slightly changed the format for their disc menus in version 10. So let me experiment on my Mac and see if I get the same results.

Okay, I tried in on my OSX Lion and you're right: No thumbnails show up in the Disc Menus window.

However, the template still works if you apply it. Give it a try and you'll see.

Meantime, I'll see if I can figure out the thumbnail issue. Sorry about that. These are the challenges when you're chasing three Windows (four, if you count Windows 7 64-bit) and two Mac operating systems as well as half a dozen versions of the program! So thanks for your patience.

Okay, it's an easy fix, hygges. Just copy these files into the Cool Blue DVD template and restart the program and it should work.

Hi Steve,
Thank you for your quick answers.
I am confused over some fundamental things. I can't see any download buttons on the page with the templates. I thought I just could drag the templates to a library.
I am not sure that I understand how to use the unzip command on the iMac. It's a little embarrasing to ask you about it. Can you please show me?

Best regards

Now that I've tried it, it looks like the file is automatically unzipped when you download it on the Mac.

So the issue was the lack of thumbnails, which I've provided above.

You've done everything right, as far as installing the templates. Macs just have a special need for these thumbnails to also be included in the folder apparently.

So drop them into the folder, restart the program and let me know how it goes. The template now works just fine for me!

Hi Steve,

I forgot to answer an earlier question from you.
I use un iMac and my project setup is: HDV 1080 i, frame rate 30.

I must ask you two questions?
Shouldn't I download via a download button from the page with the templates? I can't see any buttons.
If I want to unzip a zipped file, how do I do that?

As I said earlier, gardie, you did exactly the right thing on a Mac. Windows computers require a bit more effort to download and install a template file.

Or am I misunderstanding what you say when you say "Shouldn't I download via a download button from the page with the templates?" What are you trying to download?

I am used to (mostly from the PC- world), that when I shall download something I have to start the download with pushing a button.

Thank you very much!
I have learnt a lot from you.
I'm sure I will come back later with further questions.

Best regards

Hi,
I have a problem when using one of your DVD templates - "Wedding Blue".
In my project I have a main menu and two scene menus. The main menu appears in a widescreen (16:9),
but the two scene menus appears with an aspect ratio 4:3 and two black bars on the right and left side of the screen.
I want all the three menus as widescreen. What to do?

I have another question too.
How do I install the DVD template "Lower Third". As I can see it's a HTML file.

Regards

It's probably best to start a new thread for each question, Hygges. Things can get pretty messy if you've got a lot of people trying to have a lot of conversations in the same thread.

I'm not sure why you're seeing bars on the sides of your scene menu. What are your project settings?

It's probably even stranger that the main menu doesn't have black bars on the sides. This template is from 2008 (one of our first) and appears to include ONLY a standard 4:3 menu -- not a widescreen.

I would wonder what version of Premiere Elements you are using.

The Lower Third DVD Template is a Zip file, what are you using to download the file?
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
