Saving subclips

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 10.

Saving subclips

Postby mfl1 » Sun Jan 15, 2012 11:01 am

In Premiere Elements 10, I can use in and out points in the preview window to create a subclip from a larger clip. I can move that subclip to the timeline and rename it. What I don't seem to be able to do is save it as one of my project files. Reading various discussion boards, I see that that was possible in prior versions. Is it possible that Adobe has eliminated this useful function? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks.

I just tested it and it does still work for me. But in older versions of PRE it renamed the sub-clip. In PRE10 the new clip retains the name of the original, in other words, it just duplicates the clip and you have to rename it yourself.
I don't understand why Adobe did this, it seems counterproductive.

Here is how I do it: double click your clip in the project bin > it opens in a new window. Set your in and out points, put your mouse cursor somewhere in the middle of your clip, left click and drag into the project bin. Your cursor will change to a double cursor (black&white arrow for me). Once you release the new clip it shows up in the list of clips, with the same name as the original. If you now go back to the original clip and double click to open it again, you can move the in and out markers back to were they where and you will have 2 clips with the same name, but different duration. You have to rename the new clip to avoid confusion.

(Edited)
Here is some more info: I just tried this again and it seems that you have to set your project bin view to List. If it is set to Icon view, nothing happens when you drag the subclip to the project bin. This must be a bug in the program.

If you set your project bin now back to Icon view, the new clip shows up.

Thanks so much. That worked. I had been doing everything right except for having the icon view open. When I switched to list view, it worked just as you said. Thanks for taking the time to educate me.
