Lots of discussion brewing on this awesome consumer video editing software. Would love to hear from experienced users.

Got it to Smart Render

Postby RJ Johnston » Sat Apr 02, 2011 5:18 pm

In another thread I said that I couldn't get Avid Studio to smart render DV-AVI or MPEG-2. Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled Avid Studio. Now it's smart rendering. With all the experimenting going on, I could have broke something.

I should also state that I cleaned up a lot of codecs that were on my machine and ran a registry cleaner. Don't know if that helped the smart rendering cause.

Hi Robert, does it give an indication that it is smart-rendering? Or is just the render time that lets you know that it is smart-rendering.

It doesn't say that's it's smart rendering.

For DV-AVI test I just did, it took 28 seconds to write out 3 minutes of timeline.

Corel VideoStudio X4 Pro smart renders and took about 28 seconds as well.

Cyberlink PowerDirector 9 took 2 min. 30 secs.

I haven't seen Avid Studio smart render h.264. And the MPEG-2 that smart rendered was for DVD.

And in addition, I took a HV20 clip, MPEG2 1440x1080i 29.97 fps TFF 25 MB CBR, but it wouldn't smart render. But when I took the encoded output from that and put it on the timeline, that smart rendered. Beats me. All the specs look the same.
