Question for adding fx to imported logos

Postby Mel717 » Tue Oct 18, 2016 3:04 pm

Hi there,

I am new to sony vegas, and have been experimenting with it for the past few months. I am finding that when importing a logo, my options for applying fx are very limited. From what I can tell, the logo cannot be imported and tweaked using one of the titling options in Sony Vegas. I would love to blur individual letters or graphics in the logo, maybe use the rolling glow fx etc, can this be done somehow? Or are my only options for fx, transitioning the entire logo in and out of the scene? I hope this makes sense to someone. I've watched plently of youtube videos and tutorials to get me to this point. Any tips or advice would be grately appreciated!!

Thanks,
Mel

Hi,

Chances are if you're importing a logo then you're simply placing a picture into the timeline and Vegas won't see this any differently from any other photo. As such you will only be ably to apply effects to the whole image. You could try and mask things in Vegas but it would probably be simpler to break the logo up into separate pictures elsewhere (ideally maintaining some sort of transparency - as a .png or similar) and then placing these components as separate tracks in Vegas. If you keep all the images the same size as the original then they will line up. You can then apply motion or other effects to the individual components.

Thank you so much Chris! Can you give an example or two of what program(s) I should use to break the logo apart?

I used the excellent and free paint.net
http://www.getpaint.net/index.html
But almost any imaging package such as photoshop would do.

Although expensive Photoshop is the DeFacto standard for images.

A less pricey alternative is Photoshop elements.
