Converting VHS Tapes with Elgato Video Capture

Converting VHS Tapes with Elgato Video Capture

Postby CSchuck$35 » Tue Mar 08, 2016 9:31 pm

I used a JVC Super VHS ET recorder/player to convert several tapes using Elgato Video Capture through my PC's USB port. I tried to import to Sony Vegas 13 to edit the tapes. I have tried their options listed below including play with Windows Media Player or to add to Windows Media Player Library. The movie was also saved in a folder on my hard drive. I am not able to import to Sony Vegas 13.

Elgato Video Capture records video in H.264 at a resolution of 640×480 with AAC audio. This format is suitable for
iPod touch, iPod classic, iPod with video, iPod nano (6th/5th/4th/3rd generation), iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone
3G, iPhone, iPad 2, iPad and Apple TV. Video created by Elgato Video Capture is ready to edit in iMovie ’09 or later
and Windows Live Movie Maker, or to upload directly to YouTube.

I am new to this program and hope I gave enough information. Maybe too much

Hi, CSchuck. Welcome to Muvipix!

What steps are you taking to import your footage?
What sort of error does Vegas give you when you do it?

Also, are you saying that the video that is produced by this unit is an MP4?

If so, what steps are you taking to import it into Vegas/Movie Studio? You may not be importing it correctly, as it should be easy to load MP4s into these programs.

Thanks for your help. I an able to get the video to the Vegas software. As I stated before I am really new to this program and I am trying to follow the tutorials here as well as with the software. Also reading the book. I am more of a visual person and prefer a live class to help me a long. I am not in ant hurry to create anything so I will just keep experimenting until I get want I want.
