CODECs

I'm trying to develop my skills with animation in XaraX10. It exports to several formats, Flash, AVI, PNG, GIF, etc. As I was reading it began talking about selecting Codecs, and I've had nary experience with this at all. Does sony prefer a specific Codec? What do I need to know abouts Codecs? Thoughts appreciated.

Does this program even give you the option of picking your codec?
Most likely, if you select the AVI option for your animation output, the program will automatically use whatever codec it's been programmed to use to create that AVI. Which may not be a problem -- unless you plan to edit that AVI.
Try doing a short animation and outputting it as an AVI. Then open the AVI in G Spot or Media Info and see what video codec is listed for that file.
