Screen capture and importing into SMS 13

I'm trying to find a way to capture a video off my computer screen and the bring it into Sony Movie Studio 13 Suite. I had been having a nightmare with CamStudio but finally was able to capture something from Google Earth but when I saved it as an *.avi file and tried to bring it into SMS it said it didn't recognize the file type. I've pretty much have had it with CamStudio. Is anyone else using a screen capture program that save files compatible with SMS??

I don't have screen capture software as it is something that, for my level of usage, would get little and very occasional use. What I do is to place my camcorder on a tripod directly in front of the monitor and record that way.

I've often used Camtasia video in a Premiere Elements project.

I do set Camtasia up, though, to record at 30 fps and use the TechSmith codec to record AVI.

It's also important to remember to match your capture area's resolution to your video project's resolution. In other words, if you're going to edit a high-def (1920x1080) project, you also want to make sure that the area of your video screen that you're capturing is 1920x1080.
