Creating revolving text

Postby MrGrunthunter » Thu Jan 01, 2015 10:38 am

I have a small DIY video project I want to do for a 360 degree panning device for a GoPro camera that is different than all the 60 min egg timers I've been seeing. For the intro to the video I would like to have the numbers 360 rotating around continuously instead of just rolling in one time. After a LOT of searching around I just this morning found a YouTube video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l18_k5Rfdjo ) of how to do exactly what I want but unfortunately it was done in Photo Shop CS6. I don't want to have to go buy and learn how to use another software program just for this. Does anyone know how to do this in Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13? I do not have the Sony Vegas :-(

BTW: I do have the SONY MOVIE STUDIO 13 SUITE that I purchased a month ago and even just downloaded their latest build ( 943 ) yesterday (12/31/14)

From the looks of the video, this is a 3D effect in which the title swings around from back to front and on around.

You can do this with the NewBlue Titler EX, which comes with Movie Studio 12. Unfortunately, I've not been able to get this titler to work with Movie Studio 13. (Does anyone know if NewBlue released a v. 13 compatible version?)

You can also do this in HitFilm Pro -- but I don't know that you can do this with the "Lite" version of HitFilm that comes with Movie Studio Platinum.

But I don't believe it's an effect you can do in Movie Studio with the default tools.

Well, I just got the NewBlue Titler Pro EX to work with Movie Studio 13. (It comes with the Movie Studio 13 Suite, by the way, but not with Movie Studio 13 Platinum. You can also use the version that came with Movie Studio 12.)

The trick was to complete uninstall the NewBlue Titler and then manually remove the folder at C:/PROGRAM FILES/COMMON FILES/OFX/PLUGINS/NEWBLUE/TITLER.EX.OFX.BUNDLE and then reinstall the titler. (You do need a relatively powerful graphics card to use the titler, by the way.)

We've got a tutorial on using this title on our site at:
http://muvipix.com/products.php?searchp ... =0&btn.y=0

You can extrude the text so that it's three-dimensional by using the extrusion slider on the Attributes/Style page.

The Library includes Animations for turning the entire title, individual words or even individual letters.

The EX version of the titler that comes with Movie Studio doesn't give you a lot of control. You pretty much use the templates and animations as is. But the Pro version that comes with some versions of Vegas allows you to custom keyframe your animations, increase the speed of spin, etc.

The OP seems to have Sony Movie Studio Suite 13, so he should have the NewBlueFX 3D Titling And Video Effects, a.k.a. NB Titler Ex.
According to Ed T of NB (jetdv), the following version should work in MSP 13
http://www.newbluefx.com/downloads/Sony ... 140117.exe
Quote from SCS forum: "reply by jetdv, Date: 6/12/2014
There was an updated build after Movie Studio 13 was released. Versions prior to Movie Studio 13 being released would not recognize Movie Studio 13
..."
Steve, was this the version you got working now? And do you have Titler Ex and (a version of) Titler Pro simultaneously installed now and working correctly on the same machine?

Btw, you can also try tweaking with some 3D transitions, if you put two text events next to each other and overlap them.

Yes, vk. I think that's the version I'm using.

Though, as I said, the key was uninstalling the old version AND deleting that plugin folder before installing this version.

Steve,

I tried your link you posted but It appears I need to be a subscriber in order to view it ?

Now ... I did go into NewBlue Titler EX and went to 'LIBRARY' - 'EFFECTS' - 'ANIMATIONS' - 'TURN' - and found ' 180 DEGREES'

What that does is only rotate the word 180 degrees and instead of showing the back/reverse side of the letters it comes right around facing forward again. How do you make it simulate a full 360 degree rotation. I wish I could find someone who has already done this and saved it as a PreSet that I could use :-)

Yes, the Titler Pro EX tutorial is among our subscriber only tuts. It is a pretty high-level tutorial.

Unfortunately, Mike, the effect you're trying to create is probably not possible in Movie Studio. As I said, you'll need to use a more advanced program like After Effects or HitFilm Pro.

If you want to send me by e-mail the text you want, what color you want it and how many times you want it to spin, I'll create a spinning title for you, if you'd like. But I am getting ready to leave town to work on a project and won't be back for a week or so, so you'll need to get it to me asap or it will have to wait until I get back.

(There are others on this forum who may also volunteer to help. It's not a big deal to do but you do need the right software.)

Don't forget to tell us the Project Properties of the video project you're editing so we can give it to you in a format that will load into your project!

Steve,

I just sent you an email (1/2/15 @ 11:14a).

It looks like I do have HitFilm also. I purchased the Sony Movie Studio 13 Suite that included ACID Music Studio, Sound Forge Audio Studio plus BorisFX, FXHOME and New BlueFX Plug-Ins, that I went ahead and loaded on my computer but still haven't learned how to use it all, unfortunately. :(

Steve,

Your help has been 'over the top' and greatly appreciated.

As a follow up I have found out that the animation you created for me can be saved as a PreSet in Sony Movie Studio 13 Suite:
1.) After loading it into SMS you 'click' on the GENERATED MEDIA ICON in the clip in the timeline
2.) After that window opens up got to FILE , SAVE PRESET , SAVE PARAGRAPH PRESET and name it

To use it in a new project I then :
1.) Go to the MEDIA GENERATOR TAB
2.) Select NewBlue Titler EX and drag it onto the TimeLine
3.) Go to the LIBRARY TAB, then TEMPLATES and select MY TEMPLATES and yahoo there it is :-)

Again, MANY thanks for your help and hopefully someone else may find this information useful as well.
