I believe that is so that the program can output Main Concept MPEG files, Mohamed. That's pretty much the gold standard for MPEGs.

No, it's not a preset. It's a plugin used to encode mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 video. The Vegas plugin comes in two versions. A standard version that provides fixed presets, and a "Pro" version that provides customizable presets. The "Pro" version will not work in Vegas Studio.

Mainconcept is probably the best known company that provides quality implementations of the various commonly used video codecs. Mainconcept provides the core library of encoding and decoding routines and provides a software development kit to enable other vendors to incorporate the codecs into their products. Adobe uses Mainconcept mpeg codecs for example. Sony used the Mainconcept software development kit to create these plugins for Vegas.

Every brand has their own. They are similar -- but not identical.

As Bob and I have said, Main Concept makes the encoder that most people agree produces the best MPEGs.

Even if there is, why would you want to use a cheap MPEG encoder, Mohamed? This one is free. It comes with the program.

It's been built into Vegas since version 3. Vegas uses the MainConcept codec when you export to mpeg-1 or mpeg-2.

Go to the Project menu and select Render As. You'll see it listed as one of your output options.
